An MLM plan is the compensation structure that defines how distributors earn money, recruit downlines, and advance through ranks in a multi-level marketing company. It determines payout percentages, qualification rules, and the shape of the distributor network.

**Core elements of an MLM plan**

*   **Network structure** — defines the geometry of how new recruits attach to existing distributors (binary, matrix, unilevel, board, or hybrid).
*   **Commission triggers** — events that release payouts: personal sale, downline sale, rank advancement, leg balancing, cycle completion.
*   **Qualification rules** — monthly personal volume (PV) and group volume (GV) thresholds required to receive commissions.
*   **Rank progression** — titles like Bronze, Silver, Gold tied to volume and downline size, each unlocking additional bonuses.
*   **Bonus pools** — leadership, fast-start, car, and global pools funded from total company revenue.

**Definition:** An MLM plan is the mathematical and structural ruleset that governs distributor compensation in a multi-level marketing company. It maps every dollar of company revenue to distributors based on their position in the network, monthly activity, and rank, and it is the single most important business decision when launching an MLM.

The right MLM plan aligns distributor behavior with company goals: aggressive recruitment, retail focus, leadership building, or long-term retention. Choosing the wrong plan is the most common cause of MLM failure.
