# What Is MLM Business Plan?

An MLM business plan is a written document outlining how a multi-level marketing company will launch, operate, and grow, including product strategy, compensation plan, distributor recruitment, financial projections, and compliance approach. It is required for investor funding and regulatory clarity.

**Components of an MLM business plan**

* **Executive summary** — vision, mission, and 5-year revenue and distributor count targets.
* **Product positioning** — what is sold, who buys it, and why MLM is the right channel.
* **Compensation plan design** — full mathematical model with simulated payouts at different growth scenarios.
* **Financial projections** — revenue, cost of goods, distributor payout percentage, operating cash flow.
* **Compliance framework** — distributor agreement, income disclosure policy, FTC compliance measures.

**Definition:** An MLM business plan documents the strategic, operational, financial, and compliance framework for launching and operating a multi-level marketing company. It typically runs 30–60 pages and is reviewed by legal counsel before launch. Companies that operate without a formal plan have a far higher failure rate in the first 24 months.

The most critical section of an MLM business plan is the compensation plan math. Plans that pay more than 50% of revenue to distributors typically don't survive their second year.
