Digital marketing is the promotion of products and services through digital channels such as search engines, social media, email, websites, and mobile apps. What is digital marketing? It covers every form of marketing that uses electronic devices to reach customers, from Google search ads to TikTok influencer posts to email newsletters.

**Main components of digital marketing**

*   **Search engine optimization (SEO)** — improving website rankings in Google and other search engines.
*   **Pay-per-click advertising (PPC)** — paid ads on Google, Bing, and similar platforms.
*   **Social media marketing** — organic and paid presence on Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and others.
*   **Content marketing** — blog posts, videos, podcasts, and ebooks designed to attract an audience.
*   **Email marketing** — newsletters, promotional emails, and automated sequences.
*   **Influencer marketing** — partnerships with social media creators who promote products to their followers.

Digital marketing budgets have overtaken traditional advertising in most categories since around 2019. The shift happened because digital is measurable in ways TV and print never were.
