# How to Spot a Pyramid Scheme?

**Updated:** April 2026

How to spot a pyramid scheme? Look at where the money comes from. If income is generated primarily through recruiting new members rather than selling a real product to real customers, it is likely a pyramid scheme. This is the single most reliable test.

**Warning Signs**

* The emphasis in presentations and training is on recruitment, not product sales
* You are required to buy a large amount of inventory or pay a high entry fee to join
* The product is overpriced compared to similar items on the market or has no genuine demand
* Income claims are exaggerated and not backed by real income disclosure data
* The compensation plan is complex, confusing, and hard to explain
* Pressure to “act now” or “get in early” before it’s “too late”

How to spot a pyramid scheme on Reddit and other forums? People often share personal experiences with specific companies. Look for patterns: if multiple independent accounts describe the same red flags: high upfront costs, emphasis on recruitment, and minimal product sales — that is a strong signal.

**Definition:** You can spot a pyramid scheme by checking whether income depends on recruiting new members or on selling real products, whether entry costs are unusually high, and whether the product has genuine market demand outside the network.

Trust the math, not the pitch. If the opportunity only works when you bring in more people, it is not a business, it is a pyramid scheme.
