Bonuses work by paying employees or distributors extra money on top of base compensation when specific performance criteria are met. In MLM and network marketing, bonuses are the primary income mechanism, paying distributors for personal sales, team sales, recruitment, rank advancement, and other measurable activities defined in the compensation plan.

**How bonuses typically work in MLM**

*   **Trigger event** — distributor hits a target like minimum personal volume, rank requirement, or recruit count.

*   **Calculation period** — monthly, quarterly, or annually depending on bonus type.

*   **Bonus type determines payout** — retail commission pays a percentage of sales, fast start bonus pays a fixed amount on new recruit purchases, leadership bonus pays a percentage of downline volume.

*   **Volume requirements** — most bonuses require maintaining minimum personal and group volume.

*   **Payout method** — paid through the company's e-wallet, direct deposit, or check, typically 7-30 days after the qualification period.
